Mental Challenges as Portals to Spiritual Awakening
Beyond our socially acceptable habits there is peace and conscious clarity beyond all understanding.
Mental Challenges & Addiction as Portals to Spiritual Awakening
Opening to Possibilities of a New Recovery Paradigm
There is no shame or guilt, yet only humility, in opening to the possibility you have bought into a belief system (of mental health treatment) which may (in a way) have outlived its usefulness.
Thanks to the internet and amazing technologies, we are able to discover real and true evidence of other fellow humans who are dispelling myths, misinterpretations, and assumptions regarding mental health and addiction. Below, you will find such information and resources. Let us compassionately, willingly, and consciously open our minds and hearts to embrace this: There is another way. Allow. Open. Discover.
Evolving Awareness of Mental Health Treatment
Why do trends of addiction and mental illness continue climbing when the pharmaceutical industry and treatment options continue growing as well? If our current paradigm of treating our mental crises and emotional issues are no longer proving effective, especially as suicide rates increase, doesn’t that indicate there may be something we are missing, OR need to investigate our foundational perspectives of mental health treatment? Really, doesn’t it make sense if our current approach is showing a growth in mental illness and addiction and not a decline, that we must set our old habits, traditions, and beliefs aside and willingly open to new possibilities that may be out of our awareness. Perhaps, it is time to re-examine and question our foundational core belief systems which may be skewing our perception of reality.
On a Personal Note
For most of my life I have watched families suffering at the hands of what people, culture, religion, and the medical industry have been labeling ‘mental illness’ and ‘addiction.’ Among the confusion, there always seemed to be many people, friends, and family members pointing fingers and casting blame in all directions in attempt to avoid their own pain, obsessions, compulsions, shame, and illusory fear. What revealed itself several years after willingly choosing a path of feeling, healing, and awakening is this: It is very clear that almost everyone to some degree is suffering the same mental and emotional challenges as those we mislabel and judge as mentally ill, crazy, or addicts. At the foundational level, most every human being is innocently and naively addicted to a false sense of separation.
And, on a practical level, presently, the majority of the human race is suffering some level of confusion, fear, unworthiness, and misguided beliefs, ultimately stemming from a misidentification we hold of ourselves. In other words, we are attempting to impose psychological and pharmaceutical remedies when sacred processes illuminating conscious clarity and the illusion of separation are more reliable toward realizing inner peace; and manifesting peaceful coexistence.
Honest Introspection
If something (a new view, solution, or perception) is not in someone’s awareness, then how would they know what that something is? That is a beautiful question because the same afflictions mental health professionals are trying to treat are seen through their own limiting filters of perception – conditioned filters which use words like: affliction, disease, mental illness, addiction, etc. – from a perspective that something needs fixed. What if the view that something is wrong with someone’s mind was seen as this: nothing is wrong and needs to be ‘fixed’ but compassionately embraced, spiritually nurtured, and allowed to unfold without interruption?
Is it possible in true nature of life that depression, grief, mood swings, etc. are indicators or evidence and symptoms of awakening consciousness WHICH NEED NOT be suppressed, oppressed, OR muted with false labeling and medication? YET, nurtured so that the natural progression of spiritual awakening can run its course? The time has come to open to that which is more conducive for mental and spiritual healing. It is time to willingly open to new possibilities and sacred guidance toward connecting, feeling, healing, transformation, and awakening; and bring them to light within your own consciousness.
Opening to Feeling, Healing, and Awakening beyond the Limitations of Cultural Norms
We must begin or continue looking at issues of mental illness and addiction from an entirely fresh perspective. It is truly the (nature of reality) and plight of every human being to move toward connecting, feeling, healing, and awakening. Therefore, with respect to ALL fields of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Mental health – every mental health professional must become open to awakening unto themselves in order to better understand the mystery of humankind’s predicament. What other option do we have? Embrace limitless possibilities OR continue confining ourselves to a box of limitations which is no longer serving individuals and humanity? Let us open to a deeper reality toward healing, feeling, and awakening through Sacred Processes timelessly available.
Let us compassionately, willingly, and consciously open our minds and hearts to embrace this: There is another way. Allow. Open. Discover. Sacred Guidance Directory.
Am I Bipolar or Waking Up by Sean Blackwell
Blackwell writes: “The more I discovered (about ‘bipolar disorder’ as defined by psychiatry), the more concerned I became. It’s a lifelong illness, like asthma or diabetes. It requires a lifetime of medication. The likelihood of a relapse into mania, once off medication, is around 90%. These medications have a never-ending list of brutal, long-term side effects – excessive weight gain, kidney failure, glaucoma skin rashes, etc. Entire lives once full of potential, are robbed of vitality forever.
However, upon closer scrutiny, the vast majority of the symptoms of bipolar mania were identical to the symptoms of a spiritual emergency. In fact, many of the people with bipolar disorder that I was reading about were having, basically, the same experience that I’d had ten years earlier. It was as if I could hear alarm bells going off in my brain. These bipolar kids are having experiences of spiritual awakening, and they are being drugged for life!”

Waking up to the Truth of Depression
Here is a video titled, “Depression and Spirituality – Two Sides of the Same Coin” by Lisa Miller, Clinical Psychologist
For several decades mental health industries have been misdiagnosing and mislabeling mental illness or mental disease, simply because we didn’t know any better. However, we now have the opportunity to see beyond our filters of perception to something greater and more profound: suffering and pain as a portal to awakening. Let us remember that we must honor our path of discovery of the human mind, its components, and the practical aspects of waking up in human bodies. Thank you Psychology for assisting humanity to the extent in which the mental health industry has. Of course, if we are lovingly honest with ourselves, there comes a time when any old paradigm is challenged due to the inevitability of change and transformation. We have reached a tipping point with respect to global awakening to consciousness, and more specifically, the fields of Psychology and Psychiatry are deepening to the realization that what we once thought were mental illness are catalysts to something beyond our current beliefs, education, and training.
Challenging the Paradigm and Old Beliefs of 'Mental Disease'
Here is a video titled, “Psychosis or Spiritual Awakening” by Phill Borges, Author and Filmmaker.
When we honestly take a look out into the world and ask, “Is the traditional models of the mental health industry really working?” Especially, when all of the trends (like abuse, divorce, addiction, etc.) seem to be growing. If the old paradigms are no longer working then we must open our eyes to something new or something which has always been available but simply out of our awareness, spirituality. We see shifting trends from rigid traditional Psychology to inclusion of spiritual practices, such as Mindfulness Meditation. Meditation and Yoga are growing in popularity since they prove to have profound effects – effects which traditional mental health treatment could not produce. Allow us to remember that Yoga and Meditation are ancient spiritual practices originally designed to awaken consciousness, self realization, or self actualization. Allow yourself to become open to deeper truth and the innate wisdom you already know to be true.
