Leadership Portal
of the Citizen-Government Communication App
A developing leadership interface designed to help public officials better understand, in real time, how the people they are entrusted to serve are actually doing.
Welcome to the Vision of the Leadership Portal
IMAGINE…
You wake up in the morning, perhaps as state governor or mayor of a city, and as you’re lying there or meditating or having your first cup of coffee, a thought crosses your mind:
“Darn… I wish I really knew how our state or city is doing.”
Not just economically, and not just according to the latest reports. But how are the people actually doing? Right now. How are they feeling? What are they struggling with? What are they hopeful about? What is getting better, and what seems to be getting worse?
And then comes the obvious question:
“How would I really know… directly?”
The Heart of the Vision
The Citizen-Government Communication App and Leadership Portal are in active development and testing, and are being envisioned as part of a new kind of civic infrastructure — one designed to create a more direct, continuous, meaningful and trustworthy connection between citizens and the people entrusted to represent them.
The citizen side of the app asks:
How am I doing? What am I experiencing? What do I think? What matters to me? How can I participate?
The leadership side asks:
How are the people doing? What are they experiencing? What matters to them? What are we not seeing?
At its heart is a remarkably simple possibility: that public leaders could understand, in real time, how the people they serve are actually doing, while both citizens and leaders gain meaningful new ways to be heard, participate, and help shape the communities and society they share.
IMAGINE…
What if you could open the Leadership Portal and, in less than 30 seconds, have a clear snapshot of the social wellbeing of the people you serve — updated in real time, with meaningful trends that are easy to understand?
Not information filtered through media narratives, political institutions, corporate interests, gallup polls, or someone else’s interpretation of what the public thinks or needs, but information coming directly from the citizens themselves — voluntarily sharing how they are doing, what they are experiencing, and what matters to them right now.
IMAGINE…
Being able to see a privacy-protected, continually updated picture of what participating citizens themselves are reporting — how they are feeling, what they are struggling with, what concerns are rising, what may be improving, and what matters most to them right now. Much of this is information that cannot be fully captured through economic reports, public meetings, traditional polling, or administrative data because some of the most important answers can only come directly from the people living those experiences.
The idea is not to replace existing sources of information or the judgment of public leaders. It is to add something they have rarely had before: a direct, real-time window into the lived experiences of the people themselves.
We Need Your Help
As public servants playing an important leadership role in your community, you know better than almost anyone what you would genuinely like to understand about the people you are entrusted to serve.
What information would help you lead more effectively? What do you wish you could understand more clearly about the daily lives, concerns, wellbeing, priorities, and experiences of the people in your community? What would you want to be able to see quickly in the morning, and what questions would you want the ability to explore more deeply?
We are asking public leaders to help us think this through as the Leadership Portal continues to develop. We want to hear what you would find useful, what would make this kind of civic information trustworthy, and what could help create a more informed, responsive, and connected relationship between citizens and those entrusted to serve them.
What if technology could help create new ways for citizens to express what they are experiencing, thinking, needing, and hoping for throughout the year?
What would you most want to know about the people you are entrusted to serve?
